Energy Conservation Building Codes

The Energy Conservation Building Code (ECBC) was developed in 2007 to optimize the energy intensity of commercial buildings in India. Across the globe, countries are independently

designing and implementing energy efficiency policies and programs in residential and commercial buildings to decrease energy consumption in the old as well as new building stock.

The code in the present form is only applicable to new commercial buildings and public or institutional buildings having a connected load of more than 100 kW or 120 kVA as well as retrofit of large scale commercial buildings. The code provides minimum requirement for design and construction of energy efficient buildings.

The provisions of this code apply to building envelope, mechanical system and equipment including heating, ventilation and air conditioning, service hot water heating, interior and exterior lighting and electrical power and motors.

The National Building Code revised in 2005, also contains non‐mandatory guidance on energy appropriate design, usage, and practices with regards to building materials, construction technologies, and building and plumbing services and is the basic standard referred in ECBC.

In India, about 22 states are at various stages of mandating ECBC, wherein most of building construction activities are happening across the country.

At VK:e, we offer end to end consultancy for ECBC compliance of various building types. We are passionate to work with our projects right from the design stage and have a systematic methodology to weave energy efficiency into buildings.

Rather than a prescriptive approach we strongly believe in facilitating various options for ECBC compliance. At VK:e we also work on planning of near net zero projects. We also offer specific consultancy services for ECBC compliance required for Environmental Clearances for residential and non-residential projects.

Why VK:e ?We are one of the four consultants selected in India, awarded with Demonstration projects for ECBC compliance under the UNDP-GEF-BEE project on Energy Efficiency on Commercial Buildings in India.

Our team includes ECBC Master Trainer, BEE Energy Manager and experts in energy efficiency and conservation.(Attach BEE Letter of appreciation)VK:e has an unique approach towards ECBC compliance. Demand reduction and cost-effective interventions in the design stage of projects is a priority for us. This enables us to deliver cost-benefit not only in OPEX but also CAPEX of our commercial projects leading not just in energy savings but substantial cost saving to the developer and well as user.

We ensure perfectly tailored solutions for our projects for energy efficiency and conservation while being careful that the project does not have to compromise on functionality and aesthetics. Our specialized software’s allow us to plan and demonstrate various energy consumption scenarios for easy decision making.

The technical solutions and backed up with financial feasibility to strike an overall balance. Life Cycle Cost and NPV analysis can also be conducted to ascertain the commercial viability of the ECM’s (Energy Conservation Measures) we suggest.Case Studies:1) Kumara Krupa Guest House, Bangalore2) RBDC Shopping Mall, Kochi.
